Oil Portrait Workshop at the Oak Park Art League

The Consolation of Philosophy, oil on linen, 60cm x 80cm

This July I will be conducting a 2 day oil portrait workshop at the Oak Park Art League.  It will address historical approaches to portrait painting, in particular the methods and materials of the 17th and 18th Masters of the British, Flemish and French schools.  Process, visual philosophies and technique will be discussed as students develop a portrait sketch over 2 sessions using a limited palette and oleoresinous medium.

The specific dates are Saturday, 16th and Sunday the 17th.  For more information the link to the OPAL workshop page.

A Couple of Recent Paintings and 2015

Reverence, oil on linen, 50cm x 70cm

It has been a been a good year overall.  Life in general and that of the artist in particular is full of ups and downs.  Reconnecting with my hometown Chicago was a high point with a successful solo show, workshop, lecture and tv interview.  I also began the design and planning stages for a couple of affresco projects in Italy.  My painting Boreas was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Portrait Society of America’s Member’s Only Competition.  My sculpture Venus Pluvia was selected to participate in the National Sculpture Society’s 82nd Annual Award Exhibition.  In addition, I have the privilege to meet some wonderful new people like Matt Baron and Harold Rehs, wife, Julie Carpenter and everyone at the Oak Park Art League.  Continued support for my work from the director of MEAM and Artelibre in Barcelona has also been important.

Stoic, oil on linen, 50cm x 70cm

I am very grateful for my family and friends.  It was my old friend Michael LaConte who organized my solo show at his very elegant gallery in Chicago.  He has believed in me from the beginning.  So many others, too many to list now, have had a positive impact on life.  I thank them all and most of all my family, nuclear and extended.

The paintings shown are a couple of recent picture that I completed before Christmas.  Wishing everyone all the best for 2016.
