Tonight is the award ceremony and opening of the Modportrait 2016 at the Museo IAACC Pablo Serrano in Zaragoza, Spain. My painting Enchanted (shown above) will receive a Honorable Mention. The show will remain up until the end of July before it moves to the MEAM in Barcelona. A link to a nice article in Spanish about the show can here.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the event this evening. I would like to personally thank Jose Enrique Gonzalez, director of Galeria Artelibre, and jury for recognizing my picture. The Galerie Artelibre together with the MEAM under the leadership of Jose Manuel Infiesta have greatly contributed to the reawakening of a sincere appreciation of figurative art in Europe.
My painting shown above, Enchanted, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the traveling portrait show and competition, ModPortrait 2016. Sponsored by Galerie ArteLibre, the competition/show will first open at the Museo Pablo Serrano in Zaragoza, Spain on April 7th. It will then move the Museo MEAM in Barcelona where it opens on May 12th.
My work can now be seen online at Galeria ArteLibre. Founded in 1999, it is a virtual gallery that promotes quality figurative art through its site, exhibitions and competitions. It hosts the ModPortrait Contest and regularly collaborates with the MEAM museum in Barcelona.
It has been a been a good year overall. Life in general and that of the artist in particular is full of ups and downs. Reconnecting with my hometown Chicago was a high point with a successful solo show, workshop, lecture and tv interview. I also began the design and planning stages for a couple of affresco projects in Italy. My painting Boreas was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Portrait Society of America’s Member’s Only Competition. My sculpture Venus Pluvia was selected to participate in the National Sculpture Society’s 82nd Annual Award Exhibition. In addition, I have the privilege to meet some wonderful new people like Matt Baron and Harold Rehs, wife, Julie Carpenter and everyone at the Oak Park Art League. Continued support for my work from the director of MEAM and Artelibre in Barcelona has also been important.
I am very grateful for my family and friends. It was my old friend Michael LaConte who organized my solo show at his very elegant gallery in Chicago. He has believed in me from the beginning. So many others, too many to list now, have had a positive impact on life. I thank them all and most of all my family, nuclear and extended.
The paintings shown are a couple of recent picture that I completed before Christmas. Wishing everyone all the best for 2016.
My painting shown above, Boreas, was awarded the 3rd Honorable Mention at the Portrait Society of America’s Member’s Only Competition in the Non-Commissioned Portrait category.

My sculpture Venus Pluvia has been selected to participate in the 82nd Annual National Sculpture Society show at Brookgreen Gardens in SC. The show opens in August. In recent history, the painting below passed the first round of judging of the BP awards only to be rejected in the second.

It is run by the Fondacio’ de les Arts i els Artistes (Foundation of the Arts and Artists). The site for the actual museum can be found here.
