The full time program offers a complete artistic training for the figurative artist. The typical duration is from 2 to 3 years. Initially students are introduced to the sight size method to develop observations skills while actively engaging in concepts including: contour, proportion and mechanics of light. The first year begins with drawing from plaster casts and live models. By the end of the first year students are introduced to painting in oil.
An interdisciplinary approach is encouraged. Specific curriculum is designed on a personal basis addressing the personal needs and goals of the student. The opportunity to deepen an understanding of the auxiliary subjects important to a well rounded artistic education is available and encouraged. Anatomy, composition, 3-dimensional modeling are organically incorporated into course of study. Collins actively works alongside the students following closely their development and demonstrating the methods being taught.
Regular museum visits and cultural excursions familiarize the students with the rich artistic heritage that makes Florence the ideal environment for the study of figurative art.
