I am off to New York this week to participate in the the Grand Central Academy’s Annual Portrait Sketch Competition.  10 painters, 3 days, 6 paintings each.  You can find more details about the Competition here.  The portraits will be posted daily on their facebook page.  It should prove to be an interesting experience.  I am looking forward not only to painting some nice sketches but also meeting some good artists.

Making connections with your contemporaries is important.  It is through a constructive dialogue that art grows.  Being a curious person, I also really enjoy studying how artists and schools organize their studios.  Lighting, easel placement, etc are often overlooked elements that are fundamental in the creation of art.

Since my assistant will not be able to accompany me, I took the liberty of doing a quick sketch of him while he was watching the Nemo movie.  It is in my sketchbook at least his image will be with me during my trip.
