Above is a bas relief profile that I recently finished of my favorite model, Gabriel. It is done in porcelain biscuit or bisque. The effect of this material is quite special. The clay is a mixture of kaolin, feldspar and other additives. Due to its poor plastic qualities it is not modeled directly but poured into molds in a liquid (slip) form.
Surprisingly enough, a lot the the final touches for the relief can be done directly in the mold. The last picture is of the mold with the light coming from below. This is done to check the modeling.
