Majolica and Italian Fruit, oil on linen, 16" x 22"

Tonight is the opening of the 2011 Richeson75 Still life and Floral show at the Richeson Art Gallery in Kimberly, WI.  It will include one of my works shown above.   If you happen to be in the area, please stop by.  Otherwise it is possible to see the show online here.

The painting could be titled Majolica and Persimmons, commonly called Kaki in italian.  However I was afraid that there may be a problem with recognizing the fruit as a persimmon as it is not very common in the States.   The persimmon comes in two different shapes and a variety of colors.  The rounder variety can be confused with a tomato.  Which is not surprising considering both are by definition a ‘true berry.’  You can learn more about the persimmon here, if you find that kind of thing interesting.
